The Archipelago has many kinds of islands in it with diverse climates. The region itself is Arctic, but the islands are heated to different temperatures volcanically. During winter the water freezes over. Wars often happen during this time, as armies can march from one island to another with ease. For GMs (not players) seeking details on geography, weather and volcanism, the article on the Structure of the Archipelago may be of interest.
Most islands in the western half have light houses on them, to ease navigation by night.
The less important islands (those without rulers) usually have a mixture of farmers and fishermen living on them. Most of these are family to the Couriers.
