Parent Pages: Factions : League of Adventurers
The version of this page for the GM is here.
The Goblins Slayers were once a fairly typical group in the League of Adventurers. They didn't really stand out much, but did decent work. They're no longer so typical.
Things changed on a particularly unusual job. They were working for a psionicist that was experimenting with a technique that telepathically fuses the minds of multiple people together to form a gestalt entity with multiple bodies. In this particular case he was using the Goblin Slayers as guinea pigs, for which they were being paid an unbelievably large sum of money.
Their job was simple: meet up with the psionicist, get their minds fused, do a simple dungeon run and then get their minds separated. The whole point was to give adventurers a way of working together as one individual, for the sake of emergencies. The psionicist tagged along to keep an eye out for side effects.
He took every precaution he could think of, but was killed in an attack that came from behind. Sadly, no one saw it coming. This left the Goblin Slayers fused, with no way of being separated. The truly unfortunate part is that the poor fellow was disintegrated; they would have tried to get him brought back to life, but there wasn't enough of him left to do so.
Slayer, as the gestalt mind prefers to be called, is seeking a cure for their condition, but no one has any idea how they were fused, let alone how to separate them. Everyone that has tried to duplicate the psionicist's work has failed. He left detailed notes behind, but his handwriting was terrible and little of it can be deciphered.
In the mean time, Slayer still works for the League. Due to the fact that it's a gestalt of several individuals with varied skill sets, it is quite capable. In essence, the whole has become greater than the sum of it's parts.
The members of the Goblin Slayers, at least before they were joined, were Madbear Leafbreaker, Muco Ironsmiter, Ellywick Wimkin, Shadow of the Ruin, Adella Sonnenberg and Iara Nenoneryn.
Slayer has the combined intelligence, mental abilities and skills of the entire group. Unfortunately, it also has their foibles and short-comings. Slayer believes in three different religions, two of which are occasionally at odds.
Captain Gunderson of the League's governing council is Slayer's sponsor. They're also good friends; the group was originally formed at his suggestion.
The following notes can be used either for background information on the individual parts of Slayer or they can be used (along with their character sheets) to run the Goblin Slayers as a regular group, without their gestalt mind, should they ever be restored.
Madbear is a Wood Elf Ranger and Werebear. He prefers to tear enemies apart in half-grizzly form, but will switch to grizzly form if he needs even greater strength.
Muco is a Mountain Dwarf Battle-Rager and smith. Despite having many rough edges, he's the group's leader. He always wears spiked plate armor and tends to turn his opponents into a bloody mess. He has one of the longest arrest records in League history, mostly for crashing parties and drunkenness.
Ellywick is a Gnome illusionist and inventor. She once worked as a military cryptographer, but quit the job long ago. She often takes an unusual approach to any given situation (like using a squirt gun full of holy water vs. undead) and sometimes gets so wrapped up in what she's doing that she forgets she might be in a dangerous situation.
Shadow of the Ruin is a Death Druid. As such, he often has unconventional views as to what it means to protect nature and he's considered an outcast among most Druids. He strongly believes in honoring the entire cycle of life, most especially death. This means that he will defend the process of desertification of land, so long as it's natural in origin. He will also fight to protect land from being reclaimed from a desert state by any but a natural process. He joined the League to explore and learn more about the cycle of life, in all it's aspects.
Adella Sonnenberg is a Halfling thief and she's among the best there is. She's a member of the Shadowed Eyes.
Iara Nenoneryn is a martial artist specializing in Pankration, an old martial art of the natives of Medusa Island. However, she's incorporated knowledge of pressure points into it, making it all the more dangerous. Iara rarely, if ever, shows any emotion and puts the needs of others ahead of her own. She's also almost unfailingly truthful. She spends most of her time meditating or working out. The first thing most notice about her is that she has one brown eye and one blue.
