Gizmo (Spell)

5 points/gizmo
Prerequisites: Magery.

This unusual variation of a Gizmo (see p. B57-58) allows you (if you use Standard Magery) to set aside a spot in your prepared spells list as an unspecified blank. Once you need it, you can either prepare a spell you already knew when you prepared your spells for the day as a free action, or you can prepare a new spell you learned since then by reading it again (Speed-Reading, on p. B222, is helpful for this). If you just learned the spell in the past five minutes, it's fresh on your mind and may be prepared as a free action.

You cannot prepare a spell that's larger than the place-holder for your Gizmo, but you may prepare one that's smaller. Any excess is wasted. Multiple Gizmos may not be combined to prepare a larger spell.

If you also possess the Gadgeteer (Spells) Advantage, you may design and prepare a new spell on the spot, under the assumption that you've been working on the spell previously; you're just whipping it out for the first time. The GM should charge you the usual money for the design cost. The GM should secretly roll the normal design roll with a -2 penalty. Failure means the spell fizzles when cast, because it wasn't quite ready after all.
