Saurial

Saurials are a race of intelligent, humanoid dinosaurs. They cannot speak in the usual way, as their own method of speech is a mixture of ultrasonic frequencies beyond what humans can hear and scents that carry the tone and emotional content of their words.

Saurial Weapons

Aside from their claws, they use weapons that are balanced differently from the way most would normally expect. Non-Saurials will suffer a familiarity penalty of -2 until they get used to them. The reverse is also true: Saurials using regular weapons will suffer a -2 penalty until they're familiar with them.

Saurial swords bear unusual broad heads with swept back teeth, parallel to the blade. These count as an edged hook for the sake of being used with the Hook Technique (see p. MA74). When these odd heads are used to impale they can get stuck, similar to a pick. Use the rule for Picks (p. B405), with one change: they inflict full damage coming out, as the teeth on the head are designed for this.

Saurials may purchase these weapons at normal price. Saurial swords are CF +4, as they're quite complex to forge.

Saurial Wizards

Saurial wizards use a rather unusual type of spell book. They store their spells as notched sticks. This amounts to the Unusual Methods (Spell Sticks) Modifier on their Magery.

Each pound of stick can hold notches equivalent to 200 points of recorded spells. Many Saurial wizards use a Quarterstaff as a spell stick.

Sub-Races

Bladeback

Bladebacks resemble a Stegosaurus, with a ridge of bony plates on their back and a tail with sharp, blade-like bone protrusions. They're somewhat larger than humans (Size Modifier +1).

Torso armor must be custom crafted for Bladebacks, adding +2 to CF before doubling for size. They tend to become priests out of a drive to serve their communities.

Finhead

Finheads are so named for the fin-like protrusion that sticks out of the top of their head. They have a whippy tail that can be used to attack. They're just slightly shorter than humans (about five feet). They tend to become warriors due to their passionate nature.

They can wear regular armor, but some adjustment for their tail must usually be made.

Flyer

Flyers are small (Size Modifier -1) and have wing flaps stretching between their arms and torso, resembling a Pterosaur. They tend to become rogues, as they're quite dexterous.

Arm and torso armor must be custom crafted for Flyers, adding +2 to CF, due to their wing flaps. Even so, their wing flaps cannot be armored without making them incapable of flying.

Hornhead

Hornheads resemble a humanoid Triceratops and are just barely Size Modifier +2 (their height maxes out at 10 feet), mostly due to their large skull. Like the finhead, they can strike with their tail. They tend to become wizards, despite their size and strength, as they're quite intelligent.

They can wear armor intended for SM +1 individuals, aside from helmets. Hornhead helmets are extremely complex to craft, adding +2 CF, before doubling price for size. Most Hornheads consider their natural head armor sufficient.
