Merfolk are the creatures of legend with the upper body of a human and a fish tail instead of legs.

When their tail dries out, it transforms into a pair of legs. When it gets wet, it transforms back into a fish tail. This can be quite inconvenient if they're suddenly splashed with water while on land.
