Minos

Minos is a relatively isolated island, due to being between a group of fairly unexplored islands and Pirate territory.

The inhabitants get irregular trade opportunities, at best (the Couriers don't like to make the trip), so they travel abroad to do the trading themselves. They have a modest fleet of ships for this purpose.

The island's temperature is mild in winter and hot during the summer. It's also fairly humid.

The locals revere Minotaurs, treating them as honored guests, but there are surprisingly few of them living on the island.

The local language is Greek and very few of the locals know any other language.

The Minotaur

The island is effectively ruled by a monstrous, seemingly-immortal minotaur-like creature that's incredibly strong, durable and foul-tempered. It lives in a maze beneath the surface of the island.

The locals have an uneasy truce with the creature: they feed it and it doesn't eat them. However, it eventually gets sick of animals and vegetables, demanding a human sacrifice. Reluctantly, they give it one of their own, or if strangers are on the island, someone else. This happens about once a year, but sometimes goes as long as ten, mostly depending on how much sport the last victim was.

In truth, they'd like nothing better than to be rid of the monster, but all attempts to kill it have only succeeded in angering it.

The minotaur enjoys a good game. It's prey get a sporting chance to escape, but no one ever has; the game is always skewed in favor of the minotaur. It hates to lose and has been known to cheat from time to time.

It will not harm Minotaurs, which it considers kin.
