Notes

This is a giant spider large enough to be ridden by a normal-sized human. They're normally ridden without a saddle of any kind. The rider simply climbs on the spider's neck, or the main body. Then they're directed through foot and leg movements, but this imposes a -3 penalty to skill (most spider riders buy the Hands-Free Riding Technique). Some few use harnesses tied to the spider's fangs, but attaching them and removing them is dangerous and leaving them on can interfere with the spider's daily life.

The skill used is Riding (Spider).

In the wild, exchange Domestic Animal for Wild Animal and remove the Mount skill. They normally live off of birds that get caught in webs they string between trees, but some also live on other giant insects. Legend has it that breaking these animals for riding is incredibly dangerous.

Even domesticated, these animals can be dangerous to their owners if they ever touch their web.

These spiders are normally trained to respond to a whistle or other kind of signal. Sometimes they're trained to respond to their rider's specific voice. When they're called, they leave their web and approach the rider, at which point they can be mounted safely.

If their web is disturbed during this time, they'll attack, just as they normally would, even if it's their rider.
